Contributing to the Local Economy Provincial Road Development Project (PRDP) in Central & Sabaragamuwa Provinces funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)

Increased recognition of the rural communities is reflected in the upgrading of secondary roads.  MGC along with Engineering Consultants (Pvt) Ltd (MGC) is a chosen implementer for the project funded by the Japan International Cooperation (JICA) 

The ultimate objective of the Provincial Road Development Project (PRDP) is the growth of the local economy through the improvement of the road network by rehabilitating and upgrading 365 km of secondary roads (Class C & D), construction of associated bridges and major drainage work in the districts of Kandy, Matale, and Nuwara Eliya of the Central Province and in the districts of Ratnapura and Kegalle in the Sabaragamuwa Province.  This project includes an institutional development programme to strengthen the capacity of the Provincial Road Development Authority and the Engineering Departments in the provinces to manage and maintain the provincial roads.  The project envisages improving suitable feeder roads in collaboration with the Community Based Organisations (CBOs) to enhance the socio-economic benefits of the project.  

The project funded by JICA is implemented by the Ministry of Local Government and Provincial Councils.  Commenced in October 2011 the project will complete in May 2015.  MGC and ECL maintain a Joint Venture (JV) partnership to contribute for the implementation of this project.  The JV has deployed a team of national and international professionals and provides contract administration and construction supervision of the project. 

The project identifies and monitors the factors affecting the natural environmental system of project area including air quality, water quality, noise level, waste management, etc., according to the Central Environmental Authority (CEA) and the Guidelines for Compliance of Environmental and Social Standards of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC)

Connecting the North - Northern Road Connectivity Project (NRCP) - Additional Financing, funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB)

Connectivity improvement provides opportunity for the development, breaking isolation of the communities in the remote areas.  MGC along with Engineering Consultants (Pvt) Ltd (ECL) is the chosen implementer for the project funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).  This was the first instance of which an ADB contract was awarded to a Sri Lankan consultancy firm 

The objective of the Northern Road Connectivity Project (NRCP) is to rehabilitate an additional 110 km of national roads and 120 km of provincial roads in Northern Province (NP) and North Central Province (NCP), which will facilitate economic growth by enhancing road connectivity between the North and the South.  The national highway component of the project which is to rehabilitate and improve 5 roads totalling 117.5 km including 67.6 km in the NCP and 49.88 km in the NP, conducting on the-job training for the Employer's staff and reporting and documenting progress 

The project is implemented by the Road Development Authority (RDA).  Commenced in October 2013 the project is planned to be completed by end of 2015.  MGC and Engineering Consultants (Pvt) Ltd maintain a Joint Venture (JV) partnership, for the implementation contribution.  The JV has deployed national and international professionals and is engaged in the contract administration and construction supervision of 117 km of national roads (Class A & B), construction of associated bridges and major drainage work in the North Central Province (Anuradhapura Districts) and Northern Province (Mannar and Jaffna Districts)
