Provincial Roads Development Project (PRDP) funded by the Japan International Cooperation (JICA)

Increased recognition of the rural communities is reflected in the upgrading of secondary roads.  MGC along with Engineering Consultants (Pvt) Ltd (MGC) is a chosen implementer for the project funded by the Japan International Cooperation (JICA)

The ultimate objective of the Provincial Road Development Project (PRDP) is the growth of the local economy through the improvement of the road network by rehabilitating and upgrading 365 km of secondary roads (Class C & D), construction of associated bridges and major drainage work in the districts of Kandy, Matale, and Nuwara Eliya of the Central Province and in the districts of Ratnapura and Kegalle in the Sabaragamuwa Province.  This project includes an institutional development programme to strengthen the capacity of the Provincial Road Development Authority and the Engineering Departments in the provinces to manage and maintain the provincial roads.  The project envisages improving suitable feeder roads in collaboration with the Community Based Organisations (CBOs) to enhance the socio-economic benefits of the project

The project funded by JICA is implemented by the Ministry of Local Government and Provincial Councils.  Commenced in October 2011 the project will complete in May 2015.  MGC and ECL maintain a Joint Venture (JV) partnership to contribute for the implementation of this project.  The JV has deployed a team of national and international professionals and provides contract administration and construction supervision of the project

Provincial Roads Improvement Project funded by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation

A consultancy consortium consists of Nippon Koei Co. Ltd of Japan (Lead Firm), Halcrow Group Ltd of UK, MGC and Engineering Consultants (Pvt) Ltd (ECL) was a chosen implementation party for the Provincial Roads Improvement Project.  Japan Bank for International Cooperation was the funding agency of the project

The Provincial Roads Improvement Project was to contribute to the development of local economies through the improvement of the reliability and service level of the road network.  It was expected to rehabilitate around 600 km of secondary roads (Class C, D & E) and rehabilitate/reconstruct dilapidated bridges on the selected roads in Central and Sabaragamuwa Provinces.  However, about 300 km of roads were completed due to financial constraints.  This Project consisted of main five components viz., investigation and rehabilitation of roads & bridges, capacity building for road development agencies in Provincial Councils, capacity building for the Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local Government (MPCLG) and facilitation of NGOs/CBOs collaborating with the project

The project implemented by the MPCLG commenced in December 2004 and completed in December 2009.  The consultancy consortium deployed a set of international and local experts for the construction supervision for all civil works, preparation of engineering designs, review of feasibility study and provision of required trainings to client staff and contractors
